Grease Removal How-To: When Scrubbing Doesn’t Work

When it comes to removing grease, scrubbing alone won’t cut it; you need to dissolve the grease to effectively break it down. Since grease is an oil-based substance, it requires an alkaline cleaner to neutralize and dissolve it. One of the best options for everyday grease removal is ordinary dishwashing detergent. Designed specifically to tackle greasy dishes, this mild yet effective solution works well for most home grease issues. For light grease spots, dish detergent is a great option. Simply spray the detergent onto the greasy area, let it sit for 10-15 seconds to dissolve the grease, and then wipe it away with a clean cloth. Giving it time to soak will ensure the detergent can break down the grease more efficiently.

If you’re dealing with heavier grease deposits, you might think about using a heavy-duty cleaner or degreaser. For those with serious grease build-up, specialized degreasers from janitorial supply stores are available. These are typically reserved for tougher situations, like commercial kitchens or industrial-grade equipment.
